Practice Slip Due:

Week of March 11th

LMS Orchestras

Practice slips are due Monday, 3/11 (100 minutes.)

Great job to all students for their in-school concert performances this past Thursday! Thanks to all who were able to attend. Here are links to the performances:

The 6th and 7th grade students will be hearing from counselors in the coming week or so about elective choices for next year. I just wanted to put in a “plug” for Orchestra! Each successive year, the students get better and better and we get to do more things in each year of Orchestra. I hope to be able to continue to teach these kids next year! They are great!

The PHS counselors will also be visiting 8th grade English classes in the next couple of weeks. I am hoping that all of our 8th graders will continue on into the PHS Gray Orchestra. They are a great group and I’m looking forward to being able to teach them when they are at PHS.

In preparation for Large Ensemble Festival, the 7th and 8th graders will have a couple of after school rehearsals next week with the 8th grade Band. We will meet on Wednesday and Thursday, the 13th and 14th in the Commons from 3:00-3:30. Students should be there if at all possible. This time can be added to their weekly practice slip.

7th and 8th grade Orchestra students will travel to Palouse on Thursday, 3/21 for SEWMEA Large Ensemble Festival. We currently have plenty of chaperones/drivers, thank you to Mrs. Olson, Mrs. Dreewes, Mrs. Carter, and Mrs. Schertenleib. Parents/families/friends are more than welcome to attend the performance even if you are not a chaperone.  The schedule is below:

12:15 pm              7th grade Band Warm up
12:40 pm              7th grade Band Performance
1:05 pm                 8th grade Band Warm Up
1:30 pm                 8th grade Band Performance and 7th/8th Orchestra Warm Up
1:55 pm                 7th/8th Orchestra Performance
2:20 pm                 Combined Orchestra/Band perform

Be on the Lookout for an Itinerary and Permission form for this trip that will be sent home and needs to come back filled out and signed.

Extra Credit opportunity: PHS Drama Club is presenting “The Wizard of Oz” March  8, 9 and 14, 15, 16 at 7:00 pm in the PHS Auditorium. There will also be 2 matinee performances on the 9th and 16th at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. This would count as an extra credit concert.

One more reminder about a schedule change: the 7th and 8th graders will have their Spring Instrumental Finale on June 4th rather than May 23rd.

PHS Orchestras

Practice slips are due Monday, 3/11 (150 minutes.) The end of the term is Thursday, 3/14.

Here are some specifics regarding our upcoming performances during the school day, which will be next Tuesday, March 12th during zero period and first period in the PHS auditorium. Parents/families are welcome to attend the “live” performances. Mr. Winchell/his students will be recording these performances which will then be accessible on the Hound Central/PHS Orchestra Facebook pages. (Thank you to Mr. Winchell for doing this for us!)

Blue Orchestra class meets from 7:15-8:10. After setting up and tuning/warm-up, I think we will likely begin by about 7:35. We have approximately 15-20 minutes of music.

Gray Orchestra class meets from 8:20-9:45. After tuning and warm up, I think we will likely begin by about 8:40. We have approximately 20 minutes of music.

Students do not need to wear their concert clothing, regular school clothing is fine.

Thanks for your patience and understanding with this crazy winter weather! I am glad that we will get a chance to perform, and that parents and families will be able to hear the music, whether it’s live or recorded.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
