Week of March 25th
Practice slips are due Monday, 3/25. Third quarter ends on Friday, 4/12.
Students will turn in their practice slip from the week of 3/25 when we return from Spring Break on 4/8. Any practicing done over Spring Break is extra credit.
6th graders will finish up their Unit 16 tests on Monday, 3/25.
Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Orchestra students on their fantastic performance at the SEWMEA Large Ensemble Festival on Thursday, 3/20. The students did an amazing job performing, and received Superior (I) ratings. One judge actually marked them as a I+ rating. They were also excellent audience members for the next ensemble who performed; very respectful and polite. Way to go 7th and 8th graders!
The 6th graders have a concert coming up: Thursday, April 18th at 7:30 pm in the LMS Gymnasium. This concert will also feature the Beginning and Advanced Elementary Orchestras. It’s going to be a great show!
Practice slips are due Monday, 3/25 (150 minutes.)
Students will turn in their practice time from the week of 3/25 when we return from Spring Break of 4/8. Any practicing done over Spring Break is extra credit.
Gray Orchestra students will go to the Large Ensemble Festival in Washtucna this Tuesday, 3/26. There has been a slight change in the schedule, as one of the directors asked if we could switch performance times. Our departure and arrival times are the same. Please turn permission slips in by Monday.
Gray Orchestra students will do their Blue Orchestra audition/playing test on Thursday and Friday, 3/28 and 3/29. Students will play 2 scales and a short excerpt, “Turkish March.†We have been working on these in class. The scales are:
Violins: A major and a minor
Violas: D major and d minor
Cellos: D major and e minor
Basses: F major and e minor
The Blue Orchestra trip in May is taking shape. Here is the plan so far:
May 16: Leave PHS late morning, go to “Million Dollar
Quartet†at the Village Theatre in Issaquah (7 pm) then go to hotel
May 17: Go to the MoPop (10:30 am) and then go to Seattle Center. Go to the Seattle Symphony concert, “Classic Albums Live Presents: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.†(8:00 pm)
May 18: Morning: go to Pike Place Market, head back to Pullman late morning
I am working on details, e.g. hotel and perhaps one more activity for Saturday such as the Pacific Science Center , plus the total cost per student. It would be very helpful to me to get a firm commitment from students on this trip (yes or no) by April 10. Reserving tickets and hotel rooms is easier when I have a concrete number of participants. Thanks for your help with this!← Week of March 18th Week of April 8th →
